Happy Bird Day

Today is Bird Day.

As the Christmas and Happy New Year presents, my wife and I bought things together this year. Among them, the bird feeder that you see in above photos is included. On December 25th, on the Christmas Day, we set it up on the tree, which is in front of our house.

I remember my early life in our village. When we were young, we threw the birds by the catapult and we burned the bird and ate it on the spot (as soon as we get the bird). How wild we were! Sometimes, we took the bird-eggs from the nests. Then, the eggs were stuffed with the clay and baked and we ate them. If I say openly, I felt the birds were beautiful but I was doing it with my friends, since everybody was doing the same thing. I just realize that how the power of community is hugely effective on someone’s life. We were doing those nasty things without knowing the value of environment, with ignorance of natural beauties, with inadequate consideration and knowledge of mankind.

As a Buddhist, I deeply believe the direct effect and consequences of our actions and efforts. If I do good things, the result will be fine, too. If I am doing nasty things, I deserve the same consequences, sooner or later. I destroyed the lives of birds. I separated the family members of birds. Now, I get exact result the same. I left my family 19 years ago. In November 2004, as soon as I get in the United States, I made a phone call to my family. I had the chance to talk with my mom on that day for the first time 16 years later I left. I said, “Mom, I did not hear your voice 16 years already.” Mom cried. I do not know when I will have the chance to see my mom, dad and family again. May be - never! Who knows? I miss them a lot. I am also thinking about the birds those were victims when I was a boy, also would be the same. I am very sorry.

Whatever it was in my childhood, now I am giving foods to birds in front of our house and I am appreciating with the views of birds’ eating and enjoying. Sometimes, I take the photos; the three pictures you see the above are included among them. Thanks.

Let everybody have the food in wish!

Happy Bird Day!

I did not know it was happy bird day, but today we were in Washington DC at the bird house of the National Zoo and it was super cool. There were all these different kinds of birds flying free and calling out and eating -- right up close because you could stand in the atrium were they were. I hope you can some day go there because it was really beautiful! So, happy bird day to you!

Dear Oo,

I have recently set up a birdhoues/feeder. It is a delight to see all the different birds flock to it and eat when the winter makes life very hard for them. Caring for God's creatures is a blessing.
